The floating seat tube flexes to take the edge off bumps and absorb road buzz whilst the bladed top tube also facilitates this movement. The large hole in the lower seat tube accelerates air down the frame into a low-pressure zone behind the rider, thus lowering drag significantly. Kamm tail style tube shapes abound and Trek has also introduced a new cockpit design that is all about reducing the total frontal area. The hoods are 3cm further in than the drops, helping the rider into a much more aerodynamic position without having an adverse effect on handling. Air that hits the head tube is channelled up towards the top tube and the IsoFlow zone whilst the large down tube helps to protect the bottles from the wind too, emphasising the importance Trek has placed on the rider and bike system as a whole. 800 Series OCLV Carbon, as used on the feather-weight Émonda climbing bike, keeps the weight of the Madone down. The wireless, 12-speed SRAM Force eTap AXS groupset includes a power meter to better inform training or race efforts with many of the shifting functions able to be customised via the AXS app. Bontrager’s tubeless-ready Aeolus Pro 51 OCLV Carbon wheelset continues the aerodynamic, speed-biased theme, with the deep rims able to cut through the wind at will.
