Trek Domane SLR 9 eTap Disc Road Bike Gen 4 2023 Fast, comfortable and bristling with technology, Trek’s Domane SLR 9 eTap Disc Road Bike Gen 4 is rapid enough for pro races, yet can also take on long sportives, winter rides and even light trails. The key to its versatility is the Gen 4 frame. Made from 800 Series OCLV Carbon it is light and stiff where necessary with improved Kammtail tubing for better aerodynamics, yet Trek’s IsoSpeed concept provides cossetting comfort on rough roads and lanes. When coupled with the Bontrager Pro IsoCore handlebar, it greatly reduces fatigue and discomfort caused by poor surfaces, making the bike quicker for longer. The bike’s geometry also reflects its performance-comfort aims, with figures that are ideal for long endurance style rides without blunting its speed on shorter loops. Clearance for tyres up to 38mm offers the opportunity to fit some wide rubber and venture off the tarmac onto traffic-free trails whilst the integrated mudguard mounts make it a viable year-round option. The frame also includes Trek’s internal down tube storage that is hidden beneath the bottle cage, and with space for a few tools and an inner tube, it keeps the weight low down and out of jersey pockets. Fully wireless, the shifters and derailleurs that make up SRAM’s RED eTap AXS drivetrain communicate via a secure, Bluetooth-style protocol. This makes set-up very simple and shifting totally effortless, with crisp, accurate shifts every single time. A very wide range of gears is on offer from the combination of a 46/33 crankset and a 10-33 cassette, so steep or long hills won’t be an issue. The crankset also includes an integrated power meter for riders who like to train more efficiently or measure out their race efforts. The system can also be connected to any Bluetooth-enabled bike computer or smartphone to make use of the AXS app for riding metrics, battery life and other useful information as well as the ability to customise certain shift functions. Bontrager’s Aeolus RSL 37 OCLV Carbon wheels are well matched to the bike’s performance and versatility as they are light enough for climbing, aerodynamic enough for fast-paced rides and shallow enough that they won’t affect the handling in less than ideal conditions. Both the wheels and tyres are also tubeless-ready so they can be run at lower pressures for more grip, greater comfort and fewer punctures.
