Bianchi Oltre RC RED Disc Road Bike 2023 The pinnacle of Bianchi’s aero range, the Oltre RC RED Disc Road Bike is speed personified with a frame contoured to redirect the wind, deep wheels and components that all aim to minimise drag. Air is funnelled through the Air Deflector fairings on the head tube along the sculpted top tube and through the hole in the integrated carbon stem / handlebar to create a low-pressure area which shelters the rider. Cutouts in the downtube and seat tube allow the wheels to fit snuggly against the frame and offer a smoother profile to the wind whilst the dropped and flattened seatstays also present as small an area as possible to reduce resistance. Bianchi claims that these developments mean the Oltre RC is 45 seconds faster than its predecessor over 40km and saves 17 watts at 50kph. Despite all these advances, the frameset is impressively light and can easily be built up to challenge the 6.8kg weight limit, meaning that there won’t be a penalty to pay for all the speed when it comes to the mountains. The Reparto Corse Carbon SBG wheels have different profiles front and rear to better balance handling and drag reduction, with 50mm at the front and 65mm at the back. As Bianchi’s in-house brand, the design of the wheels matches up perfectly with the frame in terms of creating a smooth flow of air over the bike, with particular attention paid to improving performance at greater yaw angles. The rims and the Pirelli Pzero tyres are tubeless-ready with frame clearance allowing the use of rubber up to 30mm wide. Without any cables to degrade performance, SRAM’s RED eTap AXS drivetrain is responsive and intuitive to use, with gear changes operated by a light press on the lever. Their X-Range technology has been designed to provide a wide range of gears whilst still minimising any jumps between ratios by using different-sized sprockets to a traditional setup. Bluetooth connection to the AXS app allows customisation of some shift functions and compatible GPS head units can show battery levels and gear choices whilst the crankset features an integrated power meter for added performance data.
