Trek Domane SLR 7 eTap Disc Road Bike Gen 4 2023 With wireless shifting, an IsoSpeed frame, carbon wheels and plenty of other technology, Trek’s Domane SLR 7 eTap Disc Road Bike Gen 4 is a versatile, high-performance option. The key to its versatility is the Gen 4 frame. Made from 800 Series OCLV Carbon it is light and stiff where necessary with improved Kammtail tubing for better aerodynamics, yet Trek’s IsoSpeed concept provides cossetting comfort on rough roads and lanes. When coupled with the Bontrager Pro IsoCore handlebar, it greatly reduces fatigue and discomfort caused by poor surfaces, making the bike quicker for longer. The bike’s geometry also reflects its performance-comfort aims, with figures that are ideal for long endurance style rides without blunting its speed on shorter loops. Clearance for tyres up to 38mm offers the opportunity to fit some wide rubber and venture off the tarmac onto traffic-free trails whilst the integrated mudguard mounts make it a viable year-round option. The frame also includes Trek’s internal down tube storage that is hidden beneath the bottle cage, and with space for a few tools and an inner tube, it keeps the weight low down and out of jersey pockets. SRAM’s Force eTap AXS drivetrain is fully wireless so with no cables connecting the components there is no deterioration in performance over time, so every shift is fast and accurate, front or rear. Large paddles behind the brake levers call up the next gear with just a light press, no matter the pressure on the pedals and with a low gear of 1:1 hills of any size or steepness can be climbed. As well as connecting to any compatible GPS unit or bike computer, the system can be paired with SRAM’s AXS smartphone app for battery information, ride metrics and customisation of functions. There is also a power meter integrated into the chainset for more efficient training or measured race efforts. Mid-depth carbon wheels finish off the build, with Bontrager’s Aeolus Pro 37 OCLV offering an excellent balance of low weight for climbing and aerodynamics for faster sections. The depth and profile also mean that they aren’t adversely affected by tricky crosswinds, so suit the bike’s year-round, multi-faceted character.
