From the limits-shattering R5CA to Wout van Aert’s winning day on Mont Ventoux, R5 has been part of Cervelo’s story for over two decades. R5 is the bike for big days in the high mountains of the Tour de France, and the punishingly steep climbs of the Vuelta a Espana. Bikes built for the mountains must not only accelerate rapidly and climb exceptionally, but descend confidently and predictably. Faster In Every Direction The R5 frame is 130g lighter than the previous model, 16% reduction from an already-light frame. And while aerodynamics weren’t a focus with this frame the way they would be on an S5 or P5, bringing the cables inside reduced drag by 25g. Darker Than Night, Lighter Than Air The colour black may absorb all light, but Cervélo Five Black is anything but heavy. This ultra-minimal graphics and paint package results in a frame that’s significantly lighter they’ll never even see you coming. Less Stiff, Still Fast The R5 is stiff, but not too stiff, the Goldilocks of climbing bikes if you will. Poise, stability, and power transfer that feels “just right” and keeps you fresh and ready to take on the road ahead. Turbulent Aero New to R5 this year is the Reserve 34|37 TA Wheelset. That TA stands for Turbulent Aero, a new way of thinking about aerodynamics. Reserve and Cervelo have developed a protocol by which we replicate real-world wind conditions, and develop airfoil shapes that perform better outside.
