BMC Roadmachine 01 FOUR Disc Road Bike Aimed at fast, endurance-style rides BMC’s Roadmachine 01 FOUR Disc Road Bike can take anything the tarmac might throw at it. The carbon frame has a little more compliance than the out-and-out race bikes in the range, but that doesn’t mean that there is any reduction in efficiency thanks to the Tuned Compliance Concept Endurance. This dictates the precise layup of the carbon to achieve the desired attributes of the frame, balancing drivetrain efficiency with long-ride comfort. In addition, this philosophy extends to the D-shaped carbon seatpost that has also been tailored to provide increased compliance for less fatigue on rougher tarmac. At the front of the bike, the Integrated Cockpit System, ICS2, hides all the cables away and uses a reverse-style stem clamp for a very clean and neat look with a carbon handlebar to better absorb road vibrations. The SRAM Force eTap AXS groupset is electronic and fully wireless, so shifting is always quick and accurate, with just a light press of a lever required to call up the next gear. Innovative X-Range ratios provide a wide range of gears whilst keeping gaps between them to a minimum so that it’s easier to maintain optimum cadence. Bluetooth connectivity allows the drivetrain to be connected to a GPS device or smartphone for extra information and SRAM’s AXS app gives some customisation options too. BMC’s own CRD-321SL carbon wheelset uses a 35mm deep rim so that it balances low weight, easy handling in crosswinds and still provides some aerodynamic benefit. Both the wheels and tyres are tubeless-ready, so can be set up for the benefits of lower pressure use without inner tubes, such as more grip, less rolling resistance and fewer punctures along with greater comfort.
